Supporting values-driven entrepreneurship is critical to make that happen. We define entrepreneurship as "the skills and methods of doing and leading", which can be leveraged in businesses, non-profits, public service, arts and culture, and beyond. When entrepreneurship and leadership are combined with values, they can be powerful force for good.
What's a "superbloom"? 🌻🪻🌼
A "superbloom" is an amazing ecological phenomenon where, when the conditions are right, there is massively more growth and "blooming" than in a normal season. The amazing thing is that all those seeds of the superbloom were there all along, but they didn't have the right conditions to thrive.
We believe that same principle also applies to social impact entrepreneurship, especially in challenging places. The amazing people, the seeds, are there, and we need to give them the right conditions to thrive.
What is Bloom's SuperBloom Campaign?
Bloom's SuperBloom campaign is an effort to contribute towards a world where values-oriented organizations are a norm in our communities and economies. As part of that, our goal is to build towards the Bloom community and network of partners collectively supporting 1 million sustainable impact-driven enterprises and organizations (SMEs, cooperatives/employee owned companies, startups, NGOs, civic/public initiatives, etc) that reflect the diversity and demographics of our global population.
We're building the Bloom online platform (for teams/organizations and program managers), our methods supporting both individual and organizational growth, our Library of Activities, and our programs to support that movement in a scalable way.
We're of course not building the SuperBloom of opportunity and impact alone, it's a communal effort. Our impact theory of change for scalable impact involves:
- Us leveraging the Bloom methods, tools and platform to run more impact-focused programs for individuals and organizations (startups, SMEs, non-profits, cooperatives, civic/public initiatives, etc)
- Us running "train the trainer" or "accelerate the accelerators" programs to help other values-driven impact-focused organizations run more and more effective values-based accelerators and other support programs
- Releasing the Bloom software platform so values-oriented organizations and accelerators/support programs can leverage Bloom's methods, tools and platform on their own in a more scalable way
Focusing on What Matters Most - Collective Human Flourishing
Human flourishing, compassion, and harmony with nature are at the core of our vision, and we're working with patient urgency to reshape our economic landscape to guide us towards a more inclusive, regenerative and flourishing world.
Flourishing & Cultural Transformation
Enhancing wellbeing at the individual, communal, and ecological levels and shifting societal culture and values towards building inclusive, regenerative, and compassionate communities and economies.
Inclusive Democracies, Rule of Law, & Peacebuilding
Strengthening democratic and rule of law institutions, reducing corruption, civic engagement, conflict resolution, and global cooperation.
AI for Collective Good
Ethical governance, responsible deployment, distributing ownership and benefits, leveraging AI to tackle global crises ethically and equitably, & mitigating harms/collapses from irresponsible deployment of AI.
Climate & Bioregional Resilience
Regenerative initiatives and economies, local governance/municipal accelerators, and community resilience.
Economic Justice & Fair Markets
Equitable economic systems, expanding support for diverse organization types and financing models (SMEs, cooperatives, employee ownership, revenue-sharing, etc), and financial innovation to reduce inequality.
While we highlight these interconnected existential challenges, we believe that culture is at the core of most of our challenges, and culture will be at the core of most of our solutions.
Systems Change Goal: Support 1 Million Social Enterprises
Our world is at a crossroads, marked by growing inequality, social challenges, and environmental imbalances. At Bloom, we believe in steering toward a future of compassion, balance, and flourishing communities.
For over 14 years, we've been driving positive change in the Middle East and Africa through impact entrepreneurship and accelerator programs, and we've supported thousands of learners, and over 800 social impact and inclusive enterprises in our programs. We shifted to a mix of online, hybrid, and offline programs in 2017 as we worked to develop improved methods and tools for more scalable impact.
We're still working on defining exactly what it means to "support" 1 million social enterprises (3 months, ongoing, types of support, etc), and if 1 million is the right number for the impact needed and what we can collectively achieve, plus how we can collaborate with other efforts working to build towards a purpose-driven economy... but the purpose of this effort is to mobilize us towards both local and large-scale systems-change, changing our norms so that we live in purpose-driven communities and economies.
